U8 –
AGE 7

ELIGIBILITY

Athletes must be 7 years of age as of December 31st of the current season  to be eligible for the U8 racing program. Racers must be able to load, unload and ride the chair lifts independently and be able to parallel ski on green and blue runs (equivalent skill level to Adventure Bronze in the Ski School).

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

This is a development level program for 7 year old children. The emphasis is on having fun, team building, and skill development through alpine racing. Athletes are at a very important age to develop optimal motor skills. Whether your child aspires to become a competitive racer, or a great all round skier, this program focuses on fostering a love for the sport while developing the FUNdamental skills required to become a competitive skier. Our program incorporates Alpine Canada ACA Snow Stars, a 7-step program which guides children, parents, and coaches through appropriate skill progression.

Our program starts with optional dryland training in the fall, which is included with registration and plays a part in preparing athletes for ski season. Dryland training happens once a week for 4 weeks with activities relating to general fitness (core strength, endurance, agility, and balance). You will be notified of the dates and location in advance, and will be asked to sign up for each date separately the Wednesday prior.

On-snow activities start with a 4-day Christmas camp from December 27th – 30th 2022, where skiers get reacquainted with snow training, working both on and off the course. Christmas camp runs from 9am to 3pm, with a one-hour unsupervised lunch break. Please note that camp dates and hours may be reduced should weather and snow conditions create an unsafe environment or limit terrain availability. Parents and guardians are required to be on-site during training.

HALF DAY

This is a 9-week program, Saturday & Sunday 9am to 12pm. Racers will train at our home hill and compete in two fun-focused races at Brimacombe. The program includes dryland training, Christmas camp, and an end of year banquet.

See Registration tab for fee details.

FULL DAY

This is a 9-week full-day program, Saturday & Sunday 9am to 3pm with a one-hour unsupervised lunch. There are no prerequisites. This program is for anyone interested in an all-day program. Racers will train as a team at our home hill, and will race at home and at neighbouring ski clubs (if the club allows U8’s) in 3-4 fun-focussed race days. These races will include a combination of Slalom, GS, and Kombi. The program includes dryland training, Christmas camp and an end of year banquet.

See Registration tab for fee details.
